A Craftsman’s Responsibility
Simply put, the work must perform its promised function.
“If a joint fails when it comes to joining two pieces of wood securely and efficiently, that person has failed at their responsibility to society–even if the joint “looks beautiful”.(from an interview with Toshio Odate in Fine Woodworking Magazine)
“…let us do our work as well
both the unseen and the seen
make the house, where gods may dwell
beautiful, entire and clean
“Else our lives are incomplete
standing in these walls of time
broken stairways where the feet
stumble as they seek to climb”
